If you read my blog, you probably know that I’m a meditator and that the science of chakras is undoubtedly linked to meditation.
In this article, I’ll discuss briefly how each chakra is related to your daily life and how to work with them for your well-being. I won’t be talking about the meaning in Sanskrit or its roots, so, if you don’t know much about them, don’t worry. I’ll keep it as practical as possible.
Chakras are like portals that allow energy in and out of the body as they open and close. You need energy to operate in this world. People often describe energy as that feeling of power or get-up-and-go in the physical body, but this energy can also be felt in your levels of awareness of different areas of life. When you’re conscious or aware, you feel your source of creativity and power not only as strength and endurance but also as clarity and inspiration. You can say, “I feel so lucky today,” or “I’m doing great today; everything’s running smoothly for me.”
On other days, you may feel slow and drained, and your mind is full of thoughts, going in every direction. This can mean that one or more of your chakras or portals are closed, and energy isn’t coming through.
I’ve been meditating daily on my chakras for a couple of years now, and I can attest to its effectiveness. Since I’ve been following my chakras closely, my life has improved in so many ways.
Being aware of the function of your chakras is like handing you a compass and a secret book describing how to operate it. You’ll never feel lost and alone again. Much of the following information about each chakra was taken from the book Anatomy of the Spirit from Carolyn Myss and from actual experience.
THE SEVEN PORTALS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO YOUR LIFE
Since the beginning of humanity, people have lived in tribes: communities, nations, clubs, etc. The sense of belonging is embedded in you, whether you realize this or not. When you don’t feel you’re part of a group or not accepted, your first portal (chakra) shuts down.
You can lose this sense of belonging for many reasons such as different race, beliefs, intellectual knowledge, sexual orientation, or merely perceptions. This is an ancient human instinct. Emotional and psychological stability originates in the family unit and, in fact, various mental illnesses are generated out of family dysfunctions. To be part of a tribe is a primal need because we were dependent upon the tribe for basic needs such as food and shelter. Thus, we fear that we won’t physically survive when abandoned by our group and our portal shuts down; our foundations lack the stability to sustain.
Look around your life now. Have you any sense of rejection by your group? What beliefs did you inherit from your family? Do you have any unfinished business with your family members? When your portal is open, you’ll feel safe. You’ll feel a sense of connection to the physical world in all its areas.
The second portal is one of power, choice, and relationships in general. It relates to your physical needs as well as your need to control people and your physical environments through your job or money. Myss states that the fear of losing control causes the energy of this chakra to be blocked.
Some questions you might want to answer to help gain clarity about the blockage of this chakra are: Are you a controlling person? Do you engage in power plays in your relationships? Do you follow through on your creative ideas? Are you comfortable with your sexuality? Do you trust in your ability or stamina to survive financially on your own? Do you have the ability to be resilient to recover from a loss?
The third portal is related to your self-esteem and self-confidence. What incidents are making you doubt your personal power? Do you have a fear of looking foolish? Do you fear rejection? Can you change your perception and see your doubts as opportunities? Can you say, “I like myself”? If not, what do you need to do to feel you’re there? Maybe it’s just a matter of self-discipline to get where you want.
The fourth portal has to do with your feelings about your internal world such as the attention you give to your emotional needs, attitudes, and inspirations. This portal gets blocked when you’re betrayed or experience emotional weakness, which give rise to jealousy, anger, bitterness, hatred, and inability to forgive. Its unblocking comes from love, forgiveness, compassion, dedication, inspiration, hope, and the ability to heal yourself.
The fifth portal of energy is related to faith, personal authority, and the capacity for making decisions, expressing them, and surrendering to something more significant than you, surrendering to Divine power. Call it the Universe or God. The lesson this portals teaches you is to pass no judgment and trust that, whatever happens, your life is exactly as it’s meant to be.
“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” —Reinhold Niebuhr
The sixth portal or chakra involves your mental reasoning abilities and your capacity to evaluate your beliefs and attitudes. The challenge is to open your mind, develop an impersonal mind, and distinguish falsehood from truth.
This portal activates the lessons that lead us to wisdom through life experiences but also through a state of inner knowing beyond the influences of a personal mind with closed beliefs. The blockage happens when you’re unwilling to look within because you fear the truth.
Finally, the seventh portal, also known as crown chakra, relates to your capacity to be spiritual. It’s the chakra of prayer. Do you fear a loss of identity? Are you disconnected from life? Do you lack faith in the presence of the Divine? When this portal is blocked, you experience an absence of meaning and purpose, a longing that cannot be satisfied by any promotion or new relationship.
All chakras are related in such a way that when you don’t have a sense of belonging, you don’t feel safe, and your self-esteem gets lowered, affecting your relationships, and so on.
When your portals are closed for some time, your immune system will begin to weaken. Your physical body will struggle to thrive, and your world around you will seem gray.
It’s your responsibility to keep your portals open. This brief explanation can help you make the decision to change your perception to more optimism and a healthier view of your consciousness.
Years ago, people could not conceive that cells were under the skin. Today, we know this is real. In the years to come, I’m confident that the medical fields will accept that we are energy and our energy portals are real.
“We are the vessels through which energy becomes matter in life.”
